Most Victorian children and young people are adequately cared for and nurtured by their family. It is only when parents or caregivers are unable or unwilling to protect children against significant harm that the child protection network must take up this responsibility.
The broader child protection network, which includes families, the local community, community agencies, professionals working with children, police and government, works together to keep children safe from harm. The Victorian Child Protection Service is specifically targeted to those children and young people at risk of significant harm. Services include:
