The Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare

The Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare is committed to leadership and excellence in child, youth and family services. Established in 1912, Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare is the peak body representing the interests of over 80 community service organisations that assist children, young people, families and communities.

Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare undertakes research, provides policy advice to government, advocates for the needs of our members and their clients and provides training for member organisations.

Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare supports community service organisations to ensure adequate resources, quality and excellence in service provision. Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare and its members provide a voice for those children, young people and families who are vulnerable.

Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare is a registered training provider and also manages the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare Victorian Foster Care Recruitment Project which coordinates statewide foster care promotion, public relations and volunteer recruitment.

Foster Care Association of Victoria (FCAV)

The Foster Care Association of Victoria was established in 1991 as the peak body for all Victorian foster caregivers and their local associations. The Foster Care Association of Victoria was incorporated in 1992 and is managed by a Committee of Management, all of whom are foster caregivers and volunteers. The Foster Care Association of Victoria currently supports a members of up to 700 members.

FCAV objectives

  • To advance and promote the concept of foster care in the community;
  • To advance and promote the care of children/young people who are fostered;
  • To encourage contact and exchange of ideas and information between those persons involved in foster care; and
  • To provide a coordinated body to approach authorities as appropriate concerning matters relating to and/or affecting foster care.

Victorian Foster Care Recruitment Project

The Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare Victorian Foster Care Recruitment Project is a statewide home based care promotion, public relations and volunteer caregiver recruitment project.

The Victorian Foster Care Recruitment Project organises mass media advertising campaigns, co-ordinates biannual recruitment drives and operates the Foster Care Hotline to encourage people to become involved as volunteer caregivers for children and young people.

The Victorian Foster Care Recruitment Project produces promotional materials for home based care programs which assists with their local volunteer recruitment efforts. These materials include educational videos, a publicity kit, posters, brochures, stickers and postcards.

Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare Victorian Foster Care Recruitment Project has undertaken academic and market research into caregiver motivations and analysed the outcomes of recruitment strategies. The Victorian Foster Care Recruitment Project also liaises with other service providers, interstate peaks and foster carers on areas of collaboration and input.
