Protocol Between Protective Services and Families First

The Families First service provides a means whereby families can be strengthened so that despite protective concerns some children are not removed. DHS's Protective Services are provided under the Community Services Act 1970 and the Children and Young Persons Act 1989. Protective Services are established to ensure that children and young people (from birth to seventeen) are protected from physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse and neglect when their parents or care-Divers are unable or unwilling to so protect them. Not all children that are abused will require the intervention of statutory child protection services.
