Shared Family Care: Program Description and Guidelines
The purpose of this document is to provide an outline of the basic service delivery model for Shared Family Care and guidelines on eligibility and expenditure of funding. It is recognised that some Department of Human Services (DHS) regions in partnership with service providers have adapted the service delivery model to suit local circumstances.
Background
Shared Family Care (SFC) is a joint initiative of Disability Services and Community Care Divisions developed between 1989 and 1995 to enable foster care services to place children with intellectual disability or developmental delay in family based care. The initiative is funded predominantly by Disability Services.
