Download help

Some links on our site are to files created in proprietary software. When you click on these links the file will be downloaded to your PC. The larger the file's size, the longer it will take to download. To minimise the download time, save the file to your hard drive by right clicking on the link (don't open the file), save the file to a directory of your choice, then open and print the document from this location.

You will need appropriate software to view files which you have downloaded to your PC. If this software exists on your PC already, it will be automatically launched and you will be able to view the downloaded document. If it is not present on your PC, you will need to have it installed.

The following is a list of software commonly used across the Children Youth & Families website:

1. Adobe Reader
   • When you click onto links that state they are a PDF file [PDF kb] or have Adobe pdf icon, the document will automatically open up using Adobe Reader. If you don't have Adobe Reader on your PC, you can get a free copy from the Adobe website here - Adobe Reader. To minimise download time, right click on the link, save the PDF to a directory of your choice and open the file from that location. This will also make printing the publication easier.
   
   
2. Microsoft Word
   • When you click on links that state they are in a Microsoft Word file format [Word kb] or have a Word icon , the document will open up using the Word processing package you have loaded on your PC. If you don't have Microsoft Word Viewer on your PC, you can get a free copy from the Microsoft website by clicking here - Download Microsoft Word Viewer
   
   
3. Excel
   • When you click on links that state they are in a Microsoft Excel file format [XLS kb] or have an Excel icon, the document will open up using the Excel processing package you have loaded on your PC. If you don't have Microsoft Excel Viewer on your PC, you can get a free copy from the Microsoft website by clicking here - Download Microsoft Excel Viewer
   
   
4. Power Point
   • When you click on links that state they are in a Microsoft Power Point file format [PPT kb] or have a PowerPoint icon, the document will open up using the Power Point processing package you have loaded on your PC. If you don't have Microsoft Power Point Viewer on your PC, you can get a free copy from the Microsoft website by clicking here - Download Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer
   
   
5. Requesting an Accessible PDF file
   • To request a PDF file be made into an accessible format i.e. more accessible to a screen reader, contact us on http://www.dhs.vic.gov.au/help.htm
